SYNOPSIS

During that time when I dropped out of school, my daily life was taking my camera to my grandmother's house. The excuse was to shoot a documentary, but in fact, I was hoping to spend more time with her.

My Grandma lives in an old district in Suzhou, Jiefang New Village. She grows flowers and vegetables in the yard and also takes care of my aunt who is a paralysis patient. They do some handwork for a local bookstore called "The City of the Sky" to earn some money. During the filming process, I became friends with several children on that street. After school, they sometimes come to help my grandmother do the work.

The film title Children of Paradise is taken from Marcel Carné's 1945 film 'Les Enfants Du Paradis'. In France, the top floor of a theatre, also the cheapest floor, is called paradise, dedicated to those poor and kind working people.

简介

退学回家后，我每天的生活就是带着相机去外婆家。说是为了拍摄纪录片，其实是为了有更多时间和她待在一起。

外婆生活在苏州的一个老小区解放新村，她在院子里种花果蔬菜，平时照顾瘫痪在家的病人——我的小姑妈。她们靠给一家叫“猫的天空之城”的书店做手工补贴家用。在拍摄过程中，我和邻居家的几个孩子成为了朋友，她们放学后常常来外婆家帮忙。

片名Les Enfants du Paradis,直译为天堂的孩子们，取自马塞尔·卡尔内1945年的同名电影。因为过去在法国的戏院中，最顶层同时也是最廉价的楼厅，被称作天堂，献给那些观众——贫穷善良的劳动人民。
